Sherwood Commerce Center

Project Overview

Sherwood Commerce Center is a 32-acre, multi-building commercial development located in Sherwood, Oregon. The overall site covered approximately 38 acres and required extensive site preparation, grading, and utility work. McCallum was contracted to perform the drilling and blasting for the project, including significant portions related to both the building footprint and utility installations. In addition, we carried out “honeycombing”—drilling without blasting—in areas near the on-site job trailers to maintain safety and minimize disruption.

“This project represents the next chapter of Sherwood’s growth,” said Erik Adair, Sherwood’s Economic Development Manager. “We’re creating the space and infrastructure to attract high-wage employers and give our residents access to new career opportunities close to home.”

Challenges

We used two drills on this project, and the most challenging aspect was keeping the holes laid out ahead of the drillers. With two blast crews, we were able to shoot a high volume of holes per shot. Excavators and haul trucks were working ahead of us to prep the area, so the terrain was constantly changing as we moved from one section to the next.

Outcome

We drilled a total of 1,961 holes, with depths ranging from 10 to 24 feet. In total, we completed 23,448 drill feet and drilled and shot approximately 86,845 cubic yards. Additionally, we completed 150 linear feet of honeycombing and 3,992 drill feet for utility work.

Work With Us

We currently operate throughout the Western United States. We perform all applications of drilling and blasting including large-scale commercial quarries, heavy construction, road and highway construction, residential and commercial development, and utility and trenchline work.
